Westlands Community Partnership

As part of Westlands Specialist Schools status we have made commitments to help in both the local community and more importantly with our local primary schools. We meet regularly - about once a term to discuss possible ways of working together.

Laptop Trolley

Mobile laptop trolley

Our mobile laptop trolley travels round local Primaries throughout the academic year. This trolley has 16 laptops, wireless printing and four sets of Lego RoboLab sets. The trolley stays with the Primary school for around 3 week periods being moved to the next school with the help of Coombe Pafford Schools transport. The laptop trolley rota is published on the Information section of our web site as well as being emailed to all partners.

CAD/CAM Days

Our CAD/CAM days present an opportunity for groups of students from local primary schools to come into Westlands and use the design and technology equipment to make door plaques. These events last for a whole day, where students first make a preliminary design on paper, which they then transfer to computer using a 2D design package. This is then transferred onto a CNC (Computer Numerical Control) Milling Machine. Future projects may include fridge magnets and giant paperclips!

Industry Days

This day involves year 6 students from local primary schools coming to Westlands for the whole day, working with some of our year 7 students. They are split into smaller mixed groups. Students then work together to design, produce and package a Snowman/Clown mobile or Bake Cakes, each group member being allocated a particular area of responsibility, decided on as a team. They also have to put together a short presentation, in which all members of the team take part. The winning team receive prizes presented by the Headteacher.
