The school has a multitude of magnificent facilities all of which are accessible to students. High quality tuition and guidance, additional activities, career planning advice, and social activities are all included as an integral part of the Sixth Form.

We aim to meet the needs of individual young adults who are preparing for the future in a workplace, Further Education or University. Each of our students is important – we want every one of them to achieve success.

Our Sixth Form is built on the basis of inclusiveness and is comprised of students from Westlands, many other local schools, students new to the area or the country.

Being a designated Technology College has brought many benefits to Westlands. We have over 500 Computers situated in specialist rooms, in drop in rooms and the library There is open access as far as possible for Sixth Form students. In order to give our students every advantage possible for the future everyone takes an ICT course at the appropriate level. This is in addition to any other course.

Courses

In order to ensure as wide a choice of quality courses as possible in Westlands Sixth Form we have developed partnerships and work in close collaboration with St Cuthbert Mayne School, Dartington Tech and South Devon College.

We also operate a flexi-time approach to lessons so that individual time-tables will vary, and day to day attendance will depend on lesson commitment. We believe that this instils an adult approach to learning and encourages students to manage their time and learning efficiently. Any student who finds this difficult will be offered support and strategies to help them. In cases where this proves too difficult individuals lose the privilege of flexi-time and will be required in school on a fulltime basis.

Outside their main courses of study students are given the opportunity to acquire a range of additional skills and qualifications.

Enrichment activities usually take place in Sixth Forms across the Bay on a Wednesday afternoon which enables competition or collaboration to take place
