Westlands Training School

Westlands is an Associate Training School with Coombeshead Media College, Newton Abbot.  We host trainee teachers from the Universities of Exeter and Plymouth and are held in high regard by these institutions.

Westlands is committed to provide high quality training for new entrants to the profession and our staff are trained to carry out this important role.  We benefit from trainees providing additional contact for students and bringing with them new ideas.  Working with trainees is useful professional development for teachers through modelling good practice and dialogues about pedagogy and subject knowledge.

In addition to offering placements for teaching practices we also offer “tasters” for people thinking about teaching as a career, usually through TDA Open Schools scheme.  Westlands participates in the Student Associate Scheme, offering placements for undergraduates contemplating teaching as a career.

Westlands has achieved the Investors in People Award since 1997 and pride ourselves on offering all staff the opportunity to develop professionally.

Pat Brown, Deputy Headteacher, has the responsibility for Initial Teacher Education and for all staff training.
