Christie House has been raising money for Help for Heroes this term. We have raised over £120 through ‘Penny Jars’ in tutor groups, and one tutor group have made beaded bracelets to sell as well. We have been selling the Help for Heroes bracelets recently through the House Office & are proud to say that lots of our students are now wearing these. Some have bought them for parents and we will happily continue to sell these to all students, staff and parents who wish to show their support for this cause.
Early next term, on January 27th, we are planning a grand Christie Challenge where teams from each Christie Tutor Group will take part in a series of Challenges. Each Challenge will involve a ‘loss’ of some faculty (sight – blindfold; hearing – ear muffs) to enable the students to have a better understanding of what life is like for some of the soldiers who are injured in battle and benefit from support by the Help for Heroes organisation. Students will be sponsored to take part – please support your children! They will be asking for sponsors at the start of next term.
We are very proud of 3 of Westlands students, Joshua Langdon, Will Clothier and Lee Johnson who spent a wet and windy weekend raising money for Help for Heroes. The boys set themselves up outside Tescos selling Help for Heroes bands, and were collecting toiletries to send out to the troops in Afghanistan. This was their own idea, nothing to do with school, all organised by them with support from their families. The boys managed to raise over £1000 in just 2 days, we would like to let everyone know how impressed we all are at their efforts.
